Unique opportunity to revive prime Swan River heritage site
  • Cook Labor Government seeking proposals to redevelop Sunset Heritage Precinct in Dalkeith
  • Transforming the precinct into a dynamic, creative, and cultural destination
  • Expression of Interest process now open via Tenders WA
  • Cook Labor Government fostering a vibrant and creative economy
  • The Cook Labor Government is seeking proposals to redevelop one of Perth's most significant State heritage-listed sites.

The 7.9-hectare Sunset Heritage Precinct is situated on the Swan River in Dalkeith and has remained largely unused since the former hospital closed in 1995.

The Cook Labor Government wants to reactivate the Sunset Heritage Precinct site while respecting and preserving its unique heritage.

Proponents now have a rare opportunity to be a part of history in transforming the precinct into a dynamic, creative, and cultural destination while preserving its unique heritage assets.

Respondents are being asked to consider the tenure, investment, design, development, and conservation of the existing heritage buildings.

The new process offers greater flexibility, allowing respondents to put forward options such as whole-of-site use, individual buildings, or partial site solutions, which was not in the previous process.

Public access to the Sunset Heritage Precinct site was opened in 2016, and in 2019 improvements were made to encourage community use of the grounds, including landscaping and the installation of barbecue and picnic facilities.

Redevelopment of the precinct aligns with the Cook Labor Government's priority of fostering a vibrant and creative Western Australian economy.
